THE CHALLENGE

When a newborn arrives, older siblings often times have difficulty adjusting to the change. Now, imagine if that newborn has special needs. When the attention is diverted to managing the unexpected stresses, the oldest sibling is left with feelings of confusion and resentment. The home environment in which they are used to living has suddenly changed.

These changes aren’t limited to the household, they also extend into school and extracurricular activities. From bullying at school to financial hardships resulting in parents not having enough money to meet the needs and wants of sibling, the impacts and life changes are far-reaching.

OUR ANSWER

We created our Sibling Workshop program to help siblings of special needs children develop positive coping strategies as a result of family dynamic changes. Led by experienced therapists, this program helps siblings channel their feelings in constructive ways through talk therapy, music, and art.
